What is editorial photography?

Editorial photography is the photography of a story or a narrative that is published in newspapers and magazines. Editorial photography is not trying to sell things or ideas in the same way as advertising photography but is more about helping tell the story through a series of images. Editorial is financed by the newspaper or magazine, not by the advertisers.

It can be in genre such as photojournalism, fashion, portrait, sports, landscape and lots more. In particular, if you are looking at photojournalism the images has to show the realism of the scene in front of them. They have to show the truth and so they cannot alter the image in any way such as changing it in Photoshop as it could be misleading to the audience and can give the view a different point of view from the original image.
